Car is in for 60K service and dealer says water pump is leaking..

Car is in for 60K service and dealer says water pump is leaking..

They recommend I replace it along with the timing belt. Total < $1000. Could a leak with the water pump cause a timing belt to tear? Should I have them do it or just wait?

I wouldn't put that off.....failing water pumps are no good.....

Most likely the bearings on the pump are leaking. If the pump seizes, there goes your belt

shortly followed by your pistons and valves.

Thanks.. I guess I will end up doing it.. I was more shocked...

at the fact....they want $100 to replace the windshield wiper blades!!

Regarding the wiper blades...

Tell them to kiss your @ss! I would look for a good independent garage to perform the water pump/timing belt service also. They are basically telling you that they will ream you every chance they get.
