Default Carbon Fiber - Fiber Images Hood Group Buy

Buy.

Fiber Images has a minimum price policy, and getting this GB going was difficult. I was able to negotiate $600 for B5 hood and $700 for a B6 hood. I am only allowed to run this Group Buy for 15 days. These prices do not include shipping, or options such as clear coat. Most if not all your questions should be answered here:

Fiber Images CF Hood Group Buy

Default I think it's important to note the potential dangers of a carbon fiber hood...

as posted by paul i believe...a carbon fiber hood without hood pins will not crumple in a front end colision and has the possibility of being pushed into the passenger compartment harming the passengers.

Default I agree, but......

I think it would be more likely to just shatter or break apart. If you watch CART, you see what happens when they get in a wreck.

Default I see your point, but the problem lies in the fact that...

Race companies do quite a bit of R&D to make sure that they're CF does not intrude into the compartment of the driver. Its been stated by some engineers on race teams that aftermarket CF hoods are unsafe because of the lack of a crumple zone that stock hoods have. Most likely they will not shatter in fact at the speeds that we see (50mph+).

I'm not saying that it's going to happen to every CF hood owner. It's just that the possibility exists and it has not been well studied.

Default You are on the right track...but I think even with hoodpins the hood won't crumple....thus possibly

harming the passengers and yourself!

Default The only thing that I know is that few Audi race teams use the FI hoods.

How well did they study the risks - I do not know.

Also, hood pins ship free with the GB.

Default thanks doc. i knew it was some one i knew that had the goods (m)....

Not trying to start a huge hood scare here, but I think people deserve to be warned so they can do their own research and come to a completely informed opinion on whether a CF hood is right for them. I've thought about one and when I get solid info (test results performed on a B6 in real-world testing situations) than i'll probably pop for one. Our cars are so fat, I think it'd be a great idea once proven as a safe option. Cheers! Mike

Default I would be excited to see some research...your own video shows the lack of give...

that these hoods have. I'm impressed with the quality, however, it seems to indicate that they will not just crumple away in an accident. I would love to see some test data of your product indicating it's safety if you have it available. I would be interested in a purchase if the data looks good. Thanks Mike

http://www.startupracing.com/Movies/CF/CF1.wmv</a

Default Agreed! I think that there are always risks to modifying...

Hell, I'm installing new stoptechs and rear rotors soon and that in itself involves some risk! However, I think that everyone needs to realize the risks. I just don't think it should be claimed that they are 100% safe until proven in controlled crashes.
