Well now a 10 to 12 Hp gain and almost half a second drop in a 1/4 run, interesting and if true, awesome.
I've just talked to Paul at Carbonio (owner) and he tells me that their second effort in designing a CAI for our car is better than the original. It fits better, it performs better and some say it is better looking. I for one don't really care about the looks but am more interested in the performance gains claimed by them or APR.
Paul as told me that their own in-house data shows better airflow in the intake to the turbo. This is apparently backed up by months of testing by APR on one of their cars, a B5 strangely enough (as per Paul). Paul tells me the complete first production run is now sold out with all customers being very happy with the unit. Time will tell if their claims are true or fall short of the mark.
It's too late for me this year to get in a testing mode to try out their new unit, perhaps in the spring. Maybe someone that lives in a summer like area year round can do some simple testing. It would be easy to hook up a VAG COM and get the air flow readings on a stock air box. Also someone would need to do about ten 1/4 runs with a stock car to get a good average, time wise. Then after the install repeat both set of tests to see if there are any differences.
Lastly, if anyone wants any additional info on the product they can call Paul directly at Carbonio and he will take the time to explain all you need or want to know about the product.
I only wish this unit would have been ready early this summer, then I would have done the testing for all to see.

If it uses factory inputs, how is it any better (unless the inlets are not the limiting factor)? I went to an oem presentation (I work for Toyota MFG) and they showed what they said was the best type filter that they were trying to sell to us - it was the same style as the existing Audi/VW ones..
It looks nice, but I REALLY doubt these claims.
