0w oils work down to -25f because their exotic basestocks flow easily. Their cold-cranking aspects allow this to be achieved without a ton of additives that people want to avoid in conventional oils. You hear peole talk about the "spread" of the viscosity and that wider is bad. (ie: 5w-30 in winter, 10w-40 in summer) Not true of 0w oil. They actually DO work perfectly all year round. I considered Syntec 5w-40 for summer just to save my GC stash, but no reason otherwise, GC 0w-30 is fine, fine. Don't let the 0w fool ya. Stop by the oil forum, anytime.

http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=1</a
