Default Center channel speaker - question for those who have upgraded speakers.

I asked this last week...but it was a few levels down inside another post.

This weekend, I am replacing front speakers, adding sub, and amp. For those of you who have done the same, did you leave the center channel speaker connected? It seems to just be connected across the front speaker outputs of the Symphony II (in non-Bose). And what are the advatanges of keeping it or not...keeping in mind that the front speakers will have been upgaded but not the center speaker.

Default advantages of keeping it are a fuller sound.

it might not be noticible to some, but for those with fine tuned ears like myself, I can hear it. I probably wouldn't think it was there if I didn't know about it. I'm not sure how it's wired up...but I don't think it would be connected in line with the fronts. that wouldn't give you right and left control.

Default When I looked at the wiring diagram on the Bentley CD a while back...

...as far as I recall, its two terminals were connected to the + of the left and the + of the right front speakers. I recently got a new PC so I can't look at my Bentley CD until I call them and convince them that I am not stealing their software (their automated registration process claims my serial number is already registered...and it is - to me!). I'll double-check on the hookup when I get access to my CD again.

Default Give it a try...

You don't have right and left control with a center channel...it's a mono channel which is why it's a composite of the left and right signals. Be careful if you install your own amp for the front speakers...it's not made to have things wired this way...it's cheap and simple way for the factory to add a canter speaker. If you're just replacing the front speakers and not their source, I'd say try it both ways. To me a canter channel is for your home theater...not your car. Music is meant to be listened to with descrete left and right channels...a center muddies that separation...especially a low quality speaker like the stocker. Try it and see what you prefer...that's all that really matters.

Default Here is the wiring diagram from the Bentley CD...

I do plan on using my own amp with the new speakers and new wiring...so the front speakers will be disconnected at the speaker. So, I guess I can just leave the front speaker connector plugged in so the center channel works. Or, I could unplug the entire connector so the center channel goes off. Like you suggest, I'll probably try it both ways.

Anyone try replacing the center channel speaker? Anyone know what size it is?

Like I said...if you're using your own amp...be very careful with that center...your amp isn't designed to have things rigged like that.

Default Well, what I was thinking is that even though I was using my own amp for the fronts...

...I could still use the amp built in to the Symphony II to power the center...just like it is 'normally'.

Default

That might work...just have to get the signal to both amps...
