Default Er, I mean I used mobil 1.

Since I did the oil changes, I expect lots of yelling to get anything out of Audi. And the old Amsoil has been disposed of so I expect an uphill battle with Amsoil too.

I'm thinking about just replacing the oil pump and putting mobil 1 in it, unless I see a **** ton of sludge when I take the oil pan off. If I see any visible, I'll clean it off. It's just strange to see this suddenly happen w/o warning.

Anyone ever do their own oil changes and get dinged with sludge problems and have Audi replace the engine?

Default If sludge is the culprit....

That means a new oil pump will just fail prematurely doesn't it?

Also, I could clean sludge off of the bottom end and oil pan, but any ducts for circulation would just be clogged up, no hope for cleaning out w/o engine removal. Am I correct?

Default Agreed, Stay away from Amsoil

Why people think that is such good stuff is beyond me.

Default There is hope...

If oil pump is bad, replace it. Then run 2 applications of AutoRx per instructions on their website. Then recheck pressure and report back. I'd suggest Shell Rotella T Syn 5w40 for clean and rinse phases.

Default Paul, please keep us updated...

And if you would let me have some more specifics about your OC regiment. I assume 1st OC was at 10k, them AMSoil at 20,30 and what about 40, dealer...with dino??? I enquired about the reason for AMSoil's failure with a rep and I have to get facts strait. It has nothing to do with your claim , it's just for the sake of argument and future 1.8t AMSoil users. Thanks, here is my EM if you don't want to post the info here.

Default Amsoil Answers.

I purchased the car at 60k miles that was serviced by Audi. So I imagine dino oil was used for the first 60k. After which I changed to Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 synthetic. It exceeds all SAE recommended specs per their specifications. Here's my OCI history. Note: Amsoil Series 2000 states that you can double OCI from OEM on turbo models (20,000 miles in this scenario.)

60k - Change to Amsoil Series 2000 and Amsoil oil filter.
70k - Change oil filter with Amsoil oil filter, top off w/ ~1qt Amsoil Series 2000 0w30.
~77K - Due to an extended run at 130mph on the interstate, lost 1qt of oil due to blow-by, topped off with Mobil 1 0w40.
80k - Changed to Amsoil Series 2000 and Amsoil oil filter.
93k - Change oil filter with Amsoil oil filter, top off with ~1qt Amsoil Series 2000 0w30.
105k - Oil was changed by new owner (been in close contact with him) with Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 and some unknown oil filter. Oil light came on.

Note, except for the oil-blow at the high speed run, not a drop of oil was burnt.
I have run Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 in several cars (non-turbo) with the recommended 36k mile OCI and the engines still perform flawlessly. I do believe that if it is indeed sludge, it's build up from the 60k miles I cannot account for. It's known that Amsoil has cleaning properties and it's possible it may have been dislodging sludge and clogging the pump up slowly. I hope.

I feel guilty that he has had the car for less than 1 mo and this has happened, so I feel compelled to help him out. If it were still mine I would have already had AutoRx in it before this had occured.

Did you go 20K miles between changes?

Default OK, you've been around so long I thought you bought new. Last 45k was AMSoil, 1st 60k probally ...

did the damage. I dunno if I'd blame AMSoil, but they claim a lot of specs and say they can go full mfg oci. Too bad. It appears the last 45k it did aquire some sludge. I'd look into the Bilstien R-2000 flush machine. I'll check back later on.

Yes. Replace oil cooler line too. Make it insulated.
