Default Changing just the rear brake pads?

I'm convinced that Audi is using different compound brake pads front and back and that's why there's the difference in brake dust. I'm used to german cars, brake dust doesn't bother me. Having shiny clean front wheels and black dust covered rear wheels does.

Anybody know what is being used on the front so that I can match the rear? Or is there a good aftermarket pad that matches the oem rotors? Don't want a harder "performance" pad that's going to chew the rotors. This is purely an aesthetic change.

Thanks.

Default How they getting no brake dust on the front then?

The BMW community will typically swap out for a harder compound pad like Greenstuff to eliminate brake dust. I'd be willing to bet Audi has done the same to address customer complaints of brake dust. But they didn't do the rear?

What else explains no brake dust on the front when most of the braking occurs there?

Default Mintex Red Box pads dust a lot less than factory.

You might even find that your fronts will have more brake dust than the back.

The mintex pads generally offer a little less bite than factory pads, however I doubt you'll notice much, if any difference in overall braking if you put them on the back only. The front brakes do a good bit of the work.

Default The car's EBD & ESP use the rear brakes a lot in normal driving for stability..

that's why more dust on the rears!

Default Maybe to some extent, but it doesn't add up.

After two weeks of only city driving my fronts are squeeky clean and my rears are black. That'd mean 100% of my braking is happening at the rear.

And from the nose dive the stock sport suspension displays, that'd seem odd.

I'll probably just change all the pads. I'm still convinced Audi thought it'd be a good idea to change pad materials for the front to cut down on brake dust complaints.
