Default Check Engine light came on today.....

I recently purchased a 2002 3.0 Q. The check engine light came on, so i took it to AutoZone to see what the error was and I got a P0420 thru P0422 "warm up catalyst is below threshold. bank1" Does anyone have an idea what I am about to go through before I take it to the dealership???

So I have been reading posts from other sites and it sounds like the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 1 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be. Now I am wondering if this is something that I should be very concerned with or should I just shut the light off? If anyone has delt with this their opinion would be greatly helpful.

Default Did you get them to clear the code? You can not just shut off the light.

Clear the code the CEL should go out. Run it that way and see if the light and the codes return. If they do take it to the dealers and talk to the tech about it (tell him the codes).

I don't think it is critical but if you just have to change the sensor it is not all that expensive (IIRC) and you willhave the peace of mind your car is running properly.

Thanks, I didn't clear the code yet because I wanted to do some research on it. I think I will have it cleared and see what happens.

Default I am thinking that emissions control related failures are covered longer that the rest of the car .

regarding warranty claims. I would need to check, but your service adviser should inform you on the limitation for emissions warranty.

I had the light turned off, so if or when it comes on again I will take it in and see what they say. Thanks
