2002 1.8 with 53,300 miles: Solid check engine warning light appeared and dealer found vacuum line bad and replaced it. Parts $16.22 shop materials $17.50, labor $255. Reasonable? Could the average person replace this hose if he knew where it was? (don't have access to Vag-Com)

If you didn't want to do the work yourself, any respectable shop will probably charge you around 80-85 bucks an hour for labor.
The Stealership just "ownez" when it comes to charging labor.
Where do you live??

I know from first hand experience how BMW just rapes you on the "inspections" they do. Way more than my audi has ever been. I don't see this trend reversing in the future.
