Default Not sure...took 1 1/2 hours

from the time they came out and told me what the trouble was. They had the car for about an hour prior to that.

Live in Florida....service in Tampa with Reeves. They may be expensive but provide loaners and and get you right in for service pretty much when you want. They were very good when I was on warranty and I really have no complaints except as everyone already knows, Audi's are expensive to fix when something goes bad. Expect that is everywhere.

Default Ouch! Next time you get a solid CEL, get it checked at Autozone

They'll scan your car for free. Just write down the code and come back here for a quick search.

Autozone OBDII Scan - $0
Searching the Archives for code description - $0
Hose - $16.22

Total Cost - $16.22 and about 1 hour of your time (includes trip to dealer to buy part)

Sorry the dealer raped you. Even if you're not mechanically inclined, this forum is an excellent resource once you're out of warranty. I guaranty Autozone would have told you the code pulled was P0411 or P0299...both would indicate a torn vac. line.

Hopefully this will spare you a few bucks in the future.

Noob question: where is the vacuum line located?

Default There are several vacuum "lines"

The most common/obvious failure occurs at the front of the engine bay. Look for the braided line going into the top of your manifold.

Another common failure occurs in the back of your engine, near the passenger side. Look for a braided line going into the secondary air system (a metal cylinder type thing).

Basically, the braided lines in your engine bay tend to fray and disintegrate after 50,000 miles. When your engine is cool, take a minute to poke around and test each one.
