Especially since the manual specifically mentions brown as being bad.

I checked my COOLANT LEVEL for the first time 2 days ago before coming across this thread(2002 1.8T auto, 6 months old). The cold level is about 1/8-1/4" below the min. line. I know it's very careless of me not to have checked it before, but now I don't even know if it was like this from day one or possibly leaked (evaporated?).
Just as the original poster, I hate going to a dealer for every little thing, but I wonder if I can just ask them to top it off, and then monitor it to see if it decreases noticably again.
Can I actually buy the factory fill coolant from a dealer, or should they just give it to me?
