Default Chip & Warranty issues; Actual likelihood of problems? Please read & respond!

It seems to me that the biggest controversy regarding the whole chip or no chip debate surrounds the posibility of the dealer finding your chip (with good reason). So, here is my question: What is the actual likelihood of the dealer becoming aware that you have a chip? How does encoded software help? HAS ANYONE HERE EVER HAD A DEALER FIND A CHIP IN THEIR CAR? What has to happen to your car in order for them to crack open your ECU/replace it? Our engines are fairly reliable, so the question seems to be, what are the odds of a 1.8T suffering a problem serious enough that the chip would be discovered? Thoughts, feedback? I hope this thread is informative for everyone. Thanks.

This would probably be a better question for the b5 forum, since they know the long term affects..

Default Had a chip in my B5 throughout most of the warranty period.

Dealer never noticed/cared. You may want to ask on the B5 forum for some long-term dealer experiences with chipping.

Default safest bet is to purchase a second ecu w/chip....

so you can swap it out when you bring it to the dealer for, lets say, coil pack replacement. just play stupid. or just develop a good repore with your svc consultant (they keep our former presidents in high regard).

Also: If your coil fails, will the dealer have a chance of finding your chip, or is it unrelated?

Default Its hard to say. Most chips are relatively new and since the services intervals...

are so long between, I think only a handful up people who have chipped their car have gone back to the dealer for any service or regular maintenance.

If you are really that concerned about chipping and warranty issues, then maybe you shouldn't chip. I've had my car for one year now and I haven't had any problems at all. (Shoot self in foot). When I bought my car a year ago, I had the full intention of modding my car as well.
