I've learned to live with failing COPs as a part of live with my A4. My fourth failure happened a few days ago, and luckily I have spares sitting around in my trunk so it only took a few minutes to change it out.
My questions is this: Is there supposed to be oil in the cavity over the spark plugs and between the spark plug and COP? I pull out the COP and its dripping in oil. I looked in the other cylinders and not all of them have this oil. Could it be that the plug isn't screwed down tightly enough (in which case, it would be seeing a lot more than just oil). Could it be the oil thats causing the failure to the COP in the first place?
Has anyone else had any experience with this?
Thanks and happy holidays!

I am new to the audi world, but that sounds like your valve cover gaskets need to be replaced, in particular the small one around the four holes to the spark plugs. that should get rid of the oil problem...

Indeed, this is almost always a valve cover gasket issue. Quite an easy fix and not very costly either. Naturally, you should check your spark plugs first but this sounds almost precisely like a valve cover gasket issue. We carry new valve cover gaskets, don't replace just the middle rings, be sure you do both gaskets!
