Last Wed on my way back from work I experience symptoms very similar to coil pack failure: Loss of power, vibration, check engine light blinking.
I am taking my car to the dealer in a couple of days. I have an A4, 2002 with 85K miles on it.
The irony of the story, is that just 2-3 weeks earlier I received the coil pack recall notice for my car, but never bother to make an appointment with the dealer.

Holy Cow.
I had my coil packs replaced back in the day (2003, I think), but I'm noticing behavior that, seeing the recent coil-pack posts here, might be more coil pack problems.
I just had my timing belt replaced, too. I thought it might have been a mistake on that service, but the mechanic who did it came HIGHLY recommended by folks here (Greg's in Natick, MA), so I'm doubtful.
The web site pointer posted here said I won't be notified until 2010, but I'm exhibiting possible coil-pack problems again.![Frown](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Help?!?

FYI Dated November 2009 from AoA, states, "Vehicles affected by this action may have ignition coils that could malfunction under certain conditions." The subject is, "Voluntary Emissions Service Action 28F2/J1."

I just received my notice of the notice of the "upcoming voluntary emissions service action". Who are they kidding? This is a dangerous situation as quite a few posts here attest to...checking on AOA site as to when I might get my REAL letter it said June 2010! I have had a recent coil pack failure, luckily in a parking lot - and one back in '05 (2002 A4 Avant).
If anyone has any luck getting their dealer to replace coils with the right ones sooner I'd like to know. What good is replacing if they don't have the right parts?

On Tuesday evening my 2001 A4 car began idling roughly, lost power, smelled like eggs, and flashed the "check-engine" light. I had it towed to my mechanic ($117) and they diagnosed bad ignition coils (error codes for random misfire and cyl. 3 misfire). That same day I received the coil recall notice in the mail. Phoned Audi to see if they would reimburse me if my mechanic fixed it instead of the dealer, esp. since they won't pay either for the initial tow to the mechanic or for another tow to a dealer. The rep. said they "probably" would, but she needs to do some research and get back to me. I am tempted to just have my mechanic do the fix ($455 for all four coils, incl. tow) and keep my fingers crossed on the reimbursement request. Anybody have any experience with getting reimbursed by AoA?

I have an 2003 Audi a-4 1.8t I have owned the car for two years in those two years I have had this car we have replaced 8 or 9 coil packs. I replaced coil #1 twice in the past two weeks, now my car won't start. I really love my car but i am getting fed up with the coil pack issues.

I replaced all 4 coils on my '02 1.8tq. It was odd, they all died within minutes of each other. The car had ~90k at replacement time and currently has 105k.

Hi all,
I had a coil pack on my 6th cyl. go out yesterday after I changed my plugs. I called the lead tech. for Audi Seattle (Jon) and he just informed me that Audi is getting ready to issue a recall. He advised me to hold onto the receipt so I can get a refund and if my car falls under the recall they will replace all 6 for free. He said they are stock piling them now so they can meet the demand.
Thats from the horses mouth.
