Default Let's just say that it's an electrical chip that gets weaker as time goes on especially at .....

lower temps and is more prone to fail at startup.

I would expect all my 6 coils to fail at some point in the life of my Audi if the coils had the same chip lot code in them. I will definitely push to have all my coils replaced when reliable ones are available or I will ask for arbitration.

I can kick myself right now for not ordering a spare coil pack from Clair Parts before the boycot!

Default From the automotive electronics grapevine......I'm counting on Audi to fix it!

It's really not their problem...can happen to the best of manufacturers. It's a component related issue and they need to solve it with their supplier. I just don't think that we should have a shortage of coil packs here in the US as you can bet most or all the new more reliable coil packs are going to new engines for new car assembly. It's very difficult to stop a major assembly line for parts shortages so the current owners absorb the suffering...just part of doing business!

Default actually...i heard they pulled the coilpacks cuz they were the "H" packs...with a high failure rate.

and are replacing them with "J's".....which only added to the depleted supply of coils because they had replace them with the J's...and productions can't keep with the demand for the(as we have seen with nationwide failures and such). I heard that they are trying to up production.....latest computer showed that 3,000 coils were allocated and shipped this week...with a backorder of 50,000+.....Audi is hoping to catch up to the demand in the next 2-3 weeks...which sucks for many of us cuz we won't see our cars till the New Year 8^/

Sounds logical....hopefully 3.0s aren't in such a demand and will be able to get one this week??

Default thanks for the response...

So, do you think the problem has definitely been corrected in the new J-version coilpack?

Default Did you install your own spare?

I agree this does not make me happy either. And there is not much we can go about it. I really wonder if Audi will recall the coil packs? I bet they just let our warranty expire and have us buy them.

Sorry to hear that. I've been out of service for 8 days and no end in sight.

Default Only time will tell if VW/Audi are out of the woods with this one...

It just takes a lot of real world use to see if the fix will last. There is a small army of peole working on the problem. Changes will be made for the better. I believe that one can count on the final coil pack design will be robust and last a very long time. Do you realize how much money is flowing out of Audi's cookie jar over this issue to pay for towing, rentals, hotel rooms, coil packs....$$$M's. They never want to see this issue again!
