Coilovers - ride height and snow
I live in snow country. I run Michelin Artic Alpins on the stock 15's for my winter shoes and never had an issue getting where I needed to go. Car is an early B6, an '02 without sport suspension. Realized I had worn out the OEM struts at around 60 to 65,000 miles, now the clock reads 77,000!
Played with the idea of replacing the car, but have decided not to, seems like the perfect time to have some real fun with it. First order of business, suspension.
I am leaning towards Vogtland coilovers. My thought is I can drop them for the summer wheels and crank them up for my winter sheels. Is this practical? Will the highest obtainable ride height be OK for serious snow duty?
Thanks
(edited to fix added sig)

an alignment with every ride height change? ...
I would think once you have an alignment done with the coilovers installed it should stay pretty darn close as you change the ride height.
Am I completely off base here?

I'm in the same boat as you...
we get wicked snow storms here in the winter and I wanted co's to modify my ride height between summer and winter but I had to settle for a compromise.

So that puts a damper on things...
Ouch, sorry 'bout the bad pun.
OK, so if I set the Vogtlands at full up, that is still around 1.5 inches lower than stock. Will the car still be a weapon in the snow???
And what measurement is that 1.5 inches based on? Standard or Sport suspension?

Not really ....
If you install coil overs, as others have said you should get a alignment whenever you change the ride height. As far as 1.5" drop being to low for winter, it is'nt. I have Eibach springs on my '02 and I have no problem in the winter at all. I am in Ct. also.

just set them so 25.25" F&R (ground to fender center) which looks good
and is the lowest for best performance, but you still have decent clearance.
If you feel that is too low, raise it 1/4".
After you install them, they will settle, so you will need to wait a week or 2 before getting an alignment.
Once they settle, you can figure if that height is good or not, and adjust it if needed.
Then get the alignment done and you're set.
