Default coilpack help (long)

well i am 50 miles from exiting my warranty period and my car decided to give me problems as im driving back to my college to begin moving out. now to begin, i just had my car serviced 2 days ago and the car was running well, except, i have been experiencing rather rough idles for some time now and i have had some power surges under full throttle, especially in the high rpms. well today i started the car up to another rather rough idle but thought nothing of it for it was kind of cool out. i drove down the street slowly waiting for the temp to rise before getting onthe highway. as temp rises, i gave it some boost and the car began sputtering hard and making some weird noises. immediately the CEL started flashing and i pulled over. i shut the car down and restarted and ried driving again but ssame problem persisted with a funny smell. i drove no more and had the car flatbedded t dealer. now, ive done my searches and it seems that this problem is coil pack related. however, my question is, could i have had a coilpack fail a long time ago (i got a misfire code once) and not notice much change in power aside from the subtle surges? also, how many coils could have blown to render my car almost immobile? i just want to make sure the dealer relaces the necessary things for as soon as i leave the dealer, my warranty will be up. could i have any other problems perhaps? your help would be greatly appreciated guys. thanks

Default well.

you have a 4 cylinder car, when one fails partially or fully you have 3 cylinders to work with, this is VERY bad for the motor balance, and probably possibly could destroy the catalytic converter which thankfully has more warranty (8/80K iirc in most states).

perhaps you need to clean your BOV? they get gooped up sometimes and that could cause some crappy driving.

its common for coilpacks to die. no spark = no cylinder power

Since your still in warranty..have them check if all you coilpacks are the latest "L" version.
