Most of the failures occur during cold weather. Of the charts I kept while were monitoring this problem (and trying to encourage Audi to do a recall), this one paints a fair picture of weather vs. occurence.

Interesting timing. My '02 3.0 QM just this AM after first the first cool night (45) started and ran VERY rough with a flashing check engine light! Off to the dealer on MOnday, assuming I can get there. It runs like its on 4 or 5 cylinders and smells really funny...
