Default Comments on Roof Racks

I had searched the forums for good roof rack advice. I saw amny posts but still was not sure what to put on the roof of the A4. I have a Yakima setup for the wife's Passat wagon so I tried thier system for the new A4.

Clearly Yakima didn't do all thier homework on this fit.

I returned the Yakima and ordered the factory rack from Clairparts.com. The rack arrived yesterday, here are my comments.

What a pleasure to install. The mounts have a special place on the door opening. Look at your A4 door opening at the roofline and you will see the spot. There is a pin to guide the rack into the perfect place. So much better than the Yakima nonsense.

I drove on the highway at about 95 - yes there is wind noise but not too bad. I haven't loaded it or put a box on yet.

The bars are very beefy. Too beefy to use either Yakima's or Thule's wind deflector. Also the mounts are too close to use a Yakima Rocket Box. The Thule will fit(Of course I own the Yakima box).

Let me know if anyone has any questions. My conclusion is I will never use a non-factory rack again, really.

Default I use a Saris

I have the clips for each of my cars and can put it on in less than five minutes. Very easy fit system. Go to the URL below for more info.

http://www.sarisproducts.com</a

Default Re: Comments on Roof Racks

I am contemplating getting one for my ebony 3.0qmsp...does it scratch at all? I was considering in going the cheap route and just buying the trunk mount..but I know that will scratch.

Default Can you give more details on Yakima problems? (more)

You use the same towers and clips from the Passat on the A4? I've got an old Yakima setup and want to save cost by re-using the bars, bike and ski racks I have. I would have to buy new Q towers and clips, but if its going to cause problems I will just get something else.

Thanks
