Default Cost aside, 1.8T or 3.0?

I'm in the beginning stages, looking to buy, cost isn't an issue at this point.

If cost aside, then you get more with 3.0

Default Regardless of price, you have to decide which is best for you...

The 1.8T and 3.0 cars are very different in more ways than one. The 1.8T, while slower, is sportier in other aspects, such as handling. The 3.0 is a great, luxurious highway cruiser that can still hold it's own in the corners, but doesn't feel as nimble as the 1.8T. That being said, which one will suit your driving needs best? Do you need all the bells and whistles that come with a luxury car? Do you plan to modify the engine? In reality, there is much more to the equation. I suggest you begin by researching the standard features/options of each, then taking a back-to-back test drive of the cars. If you're still undecided, make a list of pros and cons and share it on the forum. You will get more help here if you can ask more specific questions in conjuction with your personal preferences.

Good luck!

I agree with Shaun. They are very different cars. I personally liked the feel of the 1.8T more than the 3.0 V6. And I liked the price! You know you are going to get a great car either way so I would think about your driving habits.

I think Shaun is right that if you are going to do a lot of highway driving the 3.0 might be a good choice. It is smoother on the highway. The turbo is more fun in the sporty, handling department in my opinion. And the 1.8T offers more leeway in the upgrade arena too.

Just my 2 cents!

Default If you haven't driven both back to back, then do yourself the favour.

Vastly different cars.

Although slower in stock form, the 1.8 is sportier via more nimble handling. It can be upgraded as tuners fill out their '02 tuning programs. The engine vibrates more, 5spd manual avail, comes only with aluminum int trim, manual seats, leatherette or cloth only, and a few options are 3.0 only.

3.0 is close to what a basic chipped 1.8t is like in terms of straight line speed. Engine tuning parts are few and far between. Smoother engine, 6spd manual avail, power seats standard, wood trim standard, leather and nav available.

If you plan to tune the engine, make sure to get the manual, as the Tip has very definite torque limits.
