I have a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T with 83k miles on it. I am the original owner.
According to the manual, replacing a timing belt is @ 105000 miles. however, the audi service and a local mechanics are saying that I should be replacing the timing belt with the water pump by now.
Should I leave the car at the Audi service or a local mechanics to do it? i am sure the price at Audi service would costs way higher than the local mechanics.
In both cases, what's the fair or reasonable price range for changing a timing belt along with the water pump?
by the way, i live in Los Angeles/Orange County area.

do it yourself for around $250 (TB, accessory belt, tensioner, H20 pump). I'd do it soon!<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng99.shtml">clicky</a></li></ul>

I also had snub mount install, oil change, trans fluid change, brake fluid bleed and change, full timing belt kit-shebang+waterpump,tensioner all that jazz.
Good time to have an underbelly inspection, whatever else you want since the whole front of the car comes off
the thermostat and DV are things that come to mind (oh wait thermostat i might be remembering my b5). DV for sho, replace it with forge or have it serviced.
Have mechanic replace all the 3.5mm braided rubber tubing (there's 3 or 4 pieces), Replace all the broken one-way check valves. Get him to change the air filter, new spark plugs FO sho.
The rate was pre-set for me, so as i added more things on to the list of jobs, and i brought my own parts (germanautoparts.com supplied all, i bump them cause they charge actual shipping always).
In all fairness the car was done in 8 hours, but the dude is 100% trustworthy that i use. And they kicked in some tubing and brake fluid which i hadn't thought of.
The car has 84.5K miles now and is ready to rock to 130K by then i'll have me an E92 or something

..to sludge. They still quoted $500 for parts and labor. Too much for me when I can do it myself for around $250.
