Is it Crazy To Buy My 03 A4 1.8 T Off Lease
it's got 48k miles -going off warranty and lease-buy out is $16k and i would save 1500 in fees and miles.. it has been a good car with no issues. putting on 15k miles now so it might not pay to lease in the future.. buying the extended warranty and future deprecation would make this a very expensive ride for for the next three years.. thanks for any advice...

$16k sounds reasonable depending on options etc
but only if you plan to keep the car long term. It rarely makes financial sense to buy a (new) car if you only intend to keep it 2-5yrs

That's a good price for an 03 with decent miles if it is in good condition . . .
but like the others have said, probably only a good idea if you intend to keep long term. I bought a 95 4Runner coming out of a lease when it had 48k miles on it. Now I'm at 123k and plan to shoot for 200-225k, so it made sense for me. I'm not sure I would do it for an audi.

I plan to drive A LOT - is the extended warranty worth it?
Hi - my dad posted the original message. I commute about 50 miles a day in southern california. there's nothing wrong with the car. the dealer quoted me just over $3K for the extended warranty, and says I have to buy the warranty before I hit 50K miles otherwise it gets more expensive. I have the car in the shop right now to fix anything that can be fixed under the original warranty. Do I get the extended warranty? I'd like a new A3 but I'm trying to save some money right now and a lease doesn't make sense because I'll be over on the miles.

3k is *really* pricey
if I have paid 3k for an extended warranty, even one with $0 deductible until 100k, I would have wasted about $2500. Hard to say if that's the norm though as there aren't a ton of B6's over 100k. Others here have had problems before 100k, so it's hard to say.
You have to look at it this way - companies sell extended warranties to make money, not to save you money. On average, your repairs over the next 50k miles will be less than $3k, otherwise they would sell it for more. Do you want to gamble and hope you make of beat average, or do you want to play it safe and pay more than average upfront?
