My Wife has a 2002 1.8t CVT and she babies the car, everything works fine. I hear "stories", true or myth, that the CVT transmissions are prone to early failure, and the repair bill is high (yea, I know how much, but don't wanna type that $$ figure or I won't be able to sleep tonight!)
Our car will go out of warranty in 4k miles or a few months.
Any guys/gals have miles on their CVT and can share their experiences?
Thanks in advance!

The service advisor told me that the module cost quite a bit- I want to say that out of warranty expense would have been $1,100.
But there have been no mechanical problems. I spoke with a different service advisor at a different dealership- he told me that he hadn't seen many cases of CVT problems.
*crosses fingers*

repair bill for dealer was $13k including parts and labor. Let's just say that I would not own this car if it didn't have a warranty. Buy an extended warranty if you can.

It never happened again and it works perfectly normal now... I don't exactly drive my car like its made of glass either. I tend to rag on it several times a day.
