I have a 1998 A4 1.8T Quattro. Great car - except that it makes this rattling noise, similar to a handful of keys being shaken, whenever the car is in gear (it's a 5 speed) but not under acceleration - when braking, between shifts, rolling to a stop before pressing the clutch.
Car runs very well, good mileage, no major problems in 6 years (tires, 1 clutch replacement at 65k, regular maintenance otherwise.) On another forum, I was advised to replace the 'dump valve.' I had that done - but the noise is still there. Suggestions?
