Default Dealer prep fee???

I have been chatting with jim Ellis Audi in Atlanta and got the price down to 1k over invoice for my custom color Moro A4. However, he also mentioned a prep fee which was $600. So in actuality the cost is 1600 over invoice. I found out this fee is not charged in most states, but GA is not one of them. The sales guy said that charge is included in the cost he is given for the car and is not negotiable. I live in SC, but the dealer sucks here. Anyone bought an Audi in GA or had a similiar charge? If so, were you able to negotiate this fee? Thanks in advance :] ... Also, I found they can order my Audi faster than the other delaership due to their allocation of Audis which is pretty cool. Three months is better than 6!

Default Dealer prep fee is crap, especially a $600 one. I'd walk unless he drops it.

For a good laugh, ask him exactly what it covers.

Default Classic case of dealer finding a creative way to introduce profit

into an otherwise too skinny deal. Sounds like the going rate is around $1500 over invoice, but they need to put a spin on things to make it sound better.

To actually confirm this, ask to see an invoice of a car already in stock. The port prep fee is usually about $45. All other fees including the AoA advertising fee, are shown on every invoice. Nothing else gets added to the cost unless the dealer puts something on the car.

You will find that most dealers charge between 3 and 5% over invoice. A quote for less than that, is highly suspect - especially since you want a custom colour and custom order.

People who tell you less, often have other factors in the deal they aren't mentioning like end of year clearance, they got ripped on the trade-in, the car they bought was purple with green polk-dots, they were boinking the manager's daughter and had nude photos, etc. When looking at actual sale prices, ignore the top and bottom 10% of deals.

Default Doesn't Ed P. work at Jim Ellis?

Ed is long time AW forum member. I don't know if he still works there as I haven't seen him post in quite a while.

BTW since you aren't worried about buying local my dealer has a moro blue A4 in stock. Zero wait time!

Default Sounds fishy.

Like you said it really would be $1600 over invoice and all of that would be dealer profit. I really doubt Georgia has some unique law that the other states don't have because that would put their dealerships at a disadvantage.

For my A4, my agreed paid price was $800 over invoice, but when I went to sign the contract, the dealer added a $200 "conveyance fee" which they said they must charge on all cars. The dealer claimed it wasn't additional profit, but it really was additional profit in my mind. The dealer would not budge in dropping it, so I ended up paying it because that amount is not a deal breaker IMO. So actually I ended up paying approx $1000 over invoice, no more or less.

BTW, Edward Palisoc is an Audi salesman with Jim Ellis, who posts regularly in the "Off Topic" forum. There's even a advertisement banner circulating around with his name in it. Ed's a dedicated Audi man and longtime AudiWorlder.

Default Thanks for all of the input!...

Looks like I may be going w/ Steve White Audi in Greenville,SC. John was very helpful and was able to do 1k (no xtra fees) above dealer cost w/ rubber mats thrown in :] . I will be putting down my deposit on Monday, so only 90ish days to go!
