I have that same build date, where did you get the extended warranty and how much?

Default What caused them to replace the power steering...

i've complained TWICE about how mine groans and pulsates. They tell me it's normal due to the Quattro system. Is this just a load of crock?

Default Re: What caused them to replace the power steering...

I mentioned a number of times about a slight pulsation in my steering wheel at low speeds and a "dead zone" when the steering wheel was centred (not sure if my explanation makes sense to you).

So at my second last service the service techs checked the steering rack and found it was toast. They also said that they had seen the same problem in one or two other B6 A4s.

Be persistent is my advice to you.

Good luck,

Rich

Thanks! Will do! Hopefully they'll get the idea after refilling the ps fluid all the time.

Default I got my extended warranty from Preferred Warranty...

They have deals set up at local dealers. They're based out of PA, but offer coverage in many states. They have a website you can visit. I was able to get the Extra Mile package which offered the most coverage. Cost for this was around $2100 which is typical for the policy.

Audi now offers an extended warranty program that is very comprarable (and possibly better) than the competitors. What you should do is to go to your dealer and talk with a service rep. Find out what companies are easy to work with in terms of coverage and claim processing. If the policy is good and doesn't cause problems with Service, then it should be something you should consider.

Preferred Warranties, Inc.

Default Info is in here...

Click on the link for the details. Make sure you get one before the OEM warranty runs out. You can get one later, but the price will be a lot higher.

Click this for warranty info.

Default Update...

Got a call from the warranty company. A claim has been filed for the replacement of the engine. They took my story down for their records on what happened. I stated to them what I've posted here.

They agree that something went wrong internally with the engine, and gave the go ahead to get another engine. What was interesting is that their policy is to first replace the engine with a matching used engine. They're out looking for a used 3.0 engine with less than 83K miles. If they can't find one, then it will be replaced with a new engine.

I'm not comfortable with that. I have no idea on the history of a used engine and how it was treated. Their view is that they are replacing like with like. If they can get a 3.0 used, it will be cheaper to them, and I get (from their view) a replacement 3.0 engine.

Default You mean assembly grease?

That should burn off in 83K miles it seems.

Keep us posted on why it died. A trashed lobe is a pretty serious failure.

Yeah, my 3.0 is an early one too.
