Audi is not involved with this...
I have over 83K miles on the current engine. I'm well beyond the OEM warranty. If this had happened while under 50K, then it would have been handled 100% by Audi (and would simply replace with new).
I'm now working with an extended warranty from a 3rd party warranty company. When I bought my car new, Audi did not have an extended warranty program of their own. The local dealers would set up a deal with a 3rd party warranty company to handle extented warranties. So now I'm working through this company and not Audi.
I've got the whole Service team backing me up in getting the engine replaced. According to their policy, they try to handle all claims in 5 business days or less. I'm hoping that they can't find one, and I'll have a new engine put in.
Got a call from the Service team. They said that the warranty company keeps asking for the wrong engine codes, so it looks like they'll never find a match. The Service team also hopes I get a new engine. Only time will tell...

I doubt they will find one. I would bet 75% of A4's on the road are 1.8's
and it's not like the A4 is a Chevy Malibu and engines are shared across 15 different models and are easy to find in a salvage yard.

Good luck!
I think you might luck out on the motor. On car-part.com the only engines on it have something wrong with them. Most junkyards post on car-part.com so hopefully you'll end up with a new motor.

This is standard
for warrantee companies to require going with a used or rebuilt engine before a new one is put in.
Way back when my bro went through this with his Sentra SE-R that had water sucked into the tailpipe (flood) and the engine threw a rod. The warrantee company found a rebuilt engine they put in or my bro had to pay the difference for a new engine. Well as you can guess he went with the rebuilt and then sold the car immediately.
I wish you good luck that they DONT find a decent used one so you'll end up with a new but either way it'll be in the car history that the engine was replaced.
