Default It was rare and unusual that this happened...

From all the reactions I've received here and on other forums, the damage that was done to my 3.0 V6 is to be considered rare and highly unusual. I imagine that with the amount of miles I've done, that I would probably be among the first few to show any signs of long term wear.

Even with that perspective, I doubt that other 3.0 owners (both A4 and A6) will encounter the same problem. I think that some internal component failed (bad casting) and the fragments from this failed component caused the damage. Another possibility would be that some foreign object got introduced into the oil system and eventually caused the damage.

Remember, I had the 80,000 mile service done only 2 months ago. At that time, there were no signs of anything going wrong. But the whole thing failed after 83,000 miles.

I was not 100% stock. My dealer was already aware of this. They did do an investigation to determine if the mods could have caused the damage. They firmly believe that the mods on the car played no role in the cause of the engine damage.
