I say this because I've seen lots of inconsistencies when trying to list my car as a 2002 A4 Avant. The AW Model Guide doesn't list a B6 Avant until 2003. Many websites do the same.
On the other hand, my car's build date is 2/02.
Am I really actually sporting an early 2003? 10 years ago, February would be current MY, but nowadays, they're announcing next year's MY as early as January, so anything's possible.

All vehicles sold in the US since 1980 have a 17-digit serial number. The 10th digit identifies the vehicle's model year.
1980-200- are designated by a letter from A to Y. Note: letters I, O, Q, U, and Z are not used because they can be easily confused with a number or another letter.
A - 1980
B - 1981
C - 1982
D - 1983
E - 1984
F - 1985
G - 1986
H - 1987
I - not used
J - 1988
K - 1989
L - 1990
M - 1991
N - 1992
O - not used
P - 1993
Q - not used
R - 1994
S - 1995
T - 1996
U - not used
V - 1997
W - 1998
X - 1999
Y - 2000
Z - not used
Beginning with 2001, numbers are used to designate the model year.
1 - 2001
2 - 2002
3 - 2003
4 - 2004
5 - 2005
6 - 2006
etc. etc.

...for the 2002 A4 Avant?
Also, in the past, people have debated little things; e.g. color Driver Info Displays didn't appear until MY'03 (I've heard from others), but others with MY'02 Avants (and Nav) have them.

...a mid-year model. As far as the color display is concerned, maybe a "mid-year" change, so call this a 2002.5??? Regardless, it is truly a 2002 model year based on your VIN.

Mine is an '02 Avant
Not to mention we got the lowest stance available from the sport suspension option. And heated rear seats, which I have too.
