Deciding on new car
I am in the market for an B6 A4, I have owned a 1996 A4 2.8Q before, switched to a volvo T5, great car, but i miss the Quattro. I am not as familiar with the B6 A4, I want a manual tranny, what would you people recomend me buying, 1.8TQ, or the 3.0 and a 6 speed or a 5 spped. I know this might be a stupid question for all of you, but I appreciate any advise. Thanks

Buy a 1.8T if you want to mod, buy a 3.0 if you like linear power and don't plan to mod.
2002-2003 1.8T's have 5-speed, later years have 6-speed. The 6-speed will have slighly lower rpm at highway speeds. STFA for more info.
I bought a 1.8t with 5 speed. I'm happy with it.

I agree with DD and Tgr...
Save your money and get the 1.8t. You can get some solid programming now for it now, not like back in the days where people esperienced problems with their chips. The latest programs are so incredibly smooth, and yet really powerful. It does seem like the 3.0's have held their value much better. But consider what kind of driving you do and this will help you decide. The 1.8t is a no brainer if you drive at high altitudes and/or lots of highway. At high altitude, a 1.8t will not lose anywhere as much power as any NA engine due to lower atmospheric pressure. And on the highway, you'll have lots of tourque for passing, yet return better gas mileage than a 3.0.
