Default definitive sunroof rattle fix???

My '02 sunroof has rattled since day one. When I pointed this out the first time to the dealer, they removed the entire sunroof! Grease all over my new headliner, arrgghh! I assumed all they were going to do was lube the gasket. They've taken the roof out three times, never any improvement. The last time "could not duplicate problem."

I've tried spray silicone on the gasket to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Does it squeak when it's in vent position?

Default good question ...

I rarely use the vent position except when parked. It's either slid open, or left closed, while driving, but I'll check it out. What does it mean if it does/doesn't?

Default Lot's of folks have had this problem (I haven't). Some find that tilting it up one notch helps, ...

Someone else discovered that although the squeak/rattle seemed to be coming from the sunroof, it was actually coming from the back seat. Pulling the seatback down and relatching it securely actually solved the problem.

Good luck ... And don't give up.

By Silglide or some other silicone type gel at an auto parts store. Lubricate the entire rubber seal. Worked for me. Must redo after 45-60 days. The spray is useless. For 2003, the seal is redesigned, so no more rattle problem

Default ah ...

"thicker" silicone lube? Thanks, I'll give that a try ... I wonder, if the seal is upgradeable to the '03 type? If I can even get the dealer to actual realize the seal is the problem, not some mysterious internal maladjustment.

Well mine rattles sometimes when it's closed all the way. Vent makes it go away.

I've found that spraying some leftover tire silicone stuff on a rag and rubbing it into the front and back edge of the sunroof rubber works well to temporarily get rid of the rattle. It probably lasts a month or so, but doesn't really come back as bad as it was at first.

Good luck. I hate all those squeaks too. Everyone always thinks I'm so **** about it.

Default Part?

According to my parts guy there is no difference in the part numbers between 02 and 03 seals.
