Diffrerence between 245/45/17 and 245/40/17? I know... profile...

but S-ingTFA, I saw people recommending 8"-8.5" wheels for 245/40/17.
I have 245/45s on my car now, no issues. Why would a 40 series call for a wider wheel? Same width only a smaller profile and diameter.
I'll give that the 245/45s are pretty close to the suspension and maybe the 245/40s would need a different offset to clear.
Nevermind the speedometer... I could use the smaller diameter on a track car.

I run 235 35 19 on a 19 x 8.5 wheel for clearance and stretched tire look. Def not recommended size for whee. Plus tread can vary from tire brandsl
