Default Diffrerence between 245/45/17 and 245/40/17? I know... profile...

but S-ingTFA, I saw people recommending 8"-8.5" wheels for 245/40/17.

I have 245/45s on my car now, no issues. Why would a 40 series call for a wider wheel? Same width only a smaller profile and diameter.

I'll give that the 245/45s are pretty close to the suspension and maybe the 245/40s would need a different offset to clear.

Nevermind the speedometer... I could use the smaller diameter on a track car.

I don't understand why changing only the aspect would necessitate a change in wheel width

I don't know either. I'm stumped why there was a consensus on wider wheels.

Default I agree with Matt Devo, there is no rim width change required for only a change of the sidewall ..

dimension, or aspect ratio given the same tread width. It does not compute.

You can look up the recommended rim widths on any tire manufacturer's website

Tires.com only gives the 45 as a +0 upgrade. Screw it. I'm buying tires.

Default I think those are common combos

I run 235 35 19 on a 19 x 8.5 wheel for clearance and stretched tire look. Def not recommended size for whee. Plus tread can vary from tire brandsl

I stuffed 255/40/17 on my SL track wheels. No rubbing. They don't stick out either.
