Default Dirtier rear wheels than front?

I have an '02 3.0Q Avant. I only have 750 miles on it, but I have noticed that the rear wheels seem to get dirtier faster than the front wheels. This would be the first car I have ever seen that exhibited this effect. The front brakes do much more of the work, so one normally assumes that they will get dirtier faster.

Has anyone else noticed their rear wheels getting dirtier faster? Thanks

Default It happens to all of us.

It's weird, but the rears are much more involved in the braking on these new A4's.

I've noticed the same on my '02 A4 1.8TM with 500 miles. My experience on previous cars with 4 wheel discs is the same as yours. The front wheels always gathered more brake dust than the rear.

Default Didn't Audi put new brake-pads on the front of new A4s? ...

With all the hue and cry about excessive brake dust (especially on front wheels) in the earlier models, I've heard they are using different brake pads now.

Maybe the ones in the back are still the "old-type", so now the rear wheels look dirtier.

Yeah, there was some talk here a while back about that and about softer pads being used in the rear (hence more dust) to prevent break noise in the back (which was apparently a common complaint).

Default It's the ESP and EDL using the rear braking system more....

Get Mintex Red Box brake pads and eliminate 90% of the dust!

And make your stock rotors wear 90% faster, from what I've heard

Totally wrong, the OEM pads wore my rotors 50% at 40K miles, the Mintex in 20K about 10%!!
