Disappointing 3.0 Engine Acceleration?

When the 3L V6 debuted, I thought it was the answer to my prayer. After reading Road & Track, the V6 quattro manual takes 7.7 sec to reach 60mph. Moreover, Consumer Magazine says the tip takes 8.3 sec to reach 60. Both figures are a lot slower than the Audi's brochure figures. I have yet to test drive the new V6. What are your comments?

I own the new 3.0 V6. It has about 5K miles on it now. Before that I owned 98 1.8T quattor 5 speed
chiped with exhaust and the works, it was a great car. But the 3.0 is much stronger, way more torque and power, specially at the bottom end.
The car got much faster after about 3K mies.
The engine runs much smoother now and has great pull. With the weight of the car the 1.8T is now way too under powered and even with just chip it will barelly do the work. If you decide to spend the $$ and do a full turbo upgrade you will have an awsome machine, but still won't have the 6 speed gear box. I am a big fan of turbo engines
(I own Audi S2 Quattro rally car, raw 420hp and 2 Mitsu EVO VI) but with the new Audi the 3.0 is the way to go, at least untill the S4 comes out.

As I expected...he said it lacks low-end even more...car has power over 3k but under 3k..lagging bothers alot...
I had two A4s with chip and exhaust....
Many people here think chipping is good solution for lacking low-end...which is totally wrong.
Due to increase of turbo lag, the actual driving feeling for low-end(below 2.5k rpm) is weaker after you chip..Everybody with chip will agree on this..
Thing are worse for 02+ because car is 200lb heavier...
I had lota debate about this with people here who HASNT drive chipped and stock 1.8T. Dont even start with me if you wanna argue with APR or GIAC's dyno graph to show me chipped 1.8T has more low end than stock car.
Drivablity and actual driving feeling is more important than just dyno graph.

Below 2500rpm, you definitly feel more lagging with chip.
I have drove about 10+ 1.8Ts(different year, different drivetrain) with, without mod even 02 1.8T.
Stock setup is best for low-end torque.
I'm not sayin chipping is bad, or dising 02.
Just saying chipping wont improve any low-end.
3.0 and 2.7T are excellent in low-end wise.

If I recall, Motor Trend got a 0-60 time with the 3.0 Quattro with a stick of 7.1 seconds. When my 3.0 was new, it felt pretty sluggish, but it's loosened up over it's break-in period, and definitely "feels" faster than 7.7 seconds.
Oh and for the record, Road & Track ALSO had a much longer breaking distance measurement than Motor Trend.
