I have the exact same problem in mine!
I've had it to my dealer several times during this past winter. They also believe the noise to be something related to the exhaust or a loose heat shield. They've tried to tighten down everything, but the noise remains.
I've always valued the work that the service department at my dealer has done. They've got some top rated mechanics and have been able to pinpoint other problems and fix them, but this one seems to baffle them.
The lifters may sound like a possible answer. It's definately louder while the engine is cold and becomes quieter (but not gone) when the engine is warmed and operating at temperature. From the inside, the sound appears to be coming from the driver's side at the lower left side of the dash.
I'll bring this up when I go in for my 70,000 mile maintenance (I'm just slightly over 69,000 now).

It's nice to hear you say that, because mine has the exhaust "pinging" noise too...
...it sounds idential to pinging when the car is started cold or even warm and you accelerate under a moderate to heavy load.
I suppose I should be thankful that my noise goes away when the car is completely warmed up. My guess - it's a flaw in the internal baffeling/tuning of the exhaust.
When I had it in for it's first oil change, they were "unable to duplicate". It's pretty annoying/embarassing, because several people have asked if my $40k car is pinging.

Actually I just realized
I do recall hearing an exhaust whine but I thought that is normal? Is this causing the problem? My mom's Lexus dosn't have anything close sounding to this. My friend's car (doing the same thing) has a whine too.

Yes, I only hear it inside.
I've never heard it outside of the car. Maybe my noise is a different problem than yours. It could be that we both have something loose with the exhaust or something loose in the exhaust itself.
I'm starting to look at possibly doing a cat back exhaust. On top of the small performance gains, it might also eliminate the problem.
