Mine died last year, after long & loud agony.
Tensioner alone is about $650, but I got it from Carson for 200 less. You'll need some gaskets & other rather cheap parts for this engine surgery.
I believe I still have all parts numbers saved on work computer.

No,that noise is not from your tensioner,it is your secondary air injection kombi valve,and yes,the rattling type noise is totally normal,all 1.8T's do it,and usually upon startup.

i had to jump on a plane and get to work
i hope its the combi, but it is VERY loud. when under the hood you have to plug your ears. way more than the normal.
