Do the RS4 wheels fit the 02A4?

the only difference will be from the additional tire to wheel weight distribution. Do you have first hand experience with this "great" loss of acceleration, or just spittin' off the top?

It can't be that much of a difference speed- or torquewise.
Circumference in inches:
235/45x17 = 79.5663
235/40x18 = 79.8013
225/45x17 = 78.4531
225/40x18 = 78.8118
And I guess the less rubber on 40 vs 45 compensates the extra rim weight a bit.

a LOT of current 1.8t owners have 18s, and nary a comment is made about this "great" problem. I went from 15s to 16s to 18s, and the difference in acceleration feel was negligible. If you feel a "great" difference, then you should be out performing blind-folded for a circus. People could reposition wheel weights on one corner of the car, and then you could tell them what the difference in acceleration was, what the change in weight was, and what corner of the car weight was added or subtracted from. Like D.Ross said, if they aren't 45lb chromes, most normal people are only going to notice a tiny (if any) difference in acceleration.
And besides all of that, there are benefits, too, to the larger wheels, even beyond improved looks. Not the least of these would be better clearance for larger brakes as well as decreased sidewall height for more stable cornering.
Sorry, but I think your post was a little irresponsible.

A really cool article (for you engineers) about the effects of heavier wheels on your acceleration...

Effect of Wheel Mass on Acceleration
