our cars are designed with (and use) a 100,000mi coolant system. To replacce the coolant every year would be a serious waste, not to mention environmentally damaging.

i got a low coolant sign ... panciked ... pulled into a near by gas station and put in the coolant they had...
came back home... read the manual to make sure what i did was right or not.
and alas it wasnt... i put in the wrong grade of coolant in...
drove to dealer the next day ... got it flushed with the new coolant and a raditor (cause it had a leak) ... but they charged me for my mis doing on the coolant which was $90 for an hr of labour and $5 for some coolant...
and since then before i take a decision in haste i RTFM ...

not sure about 30k or 40k, but, as long as nothing's wrong with your radiator, i doubt they do it then either. on the other hand, if your radiator breaks, per audi's warranty, they'd have to flush/replace it for free
