Default Does 1.8T chipped fix highway buzz?

I've heard that the 1.8T engine revs pretty high at highway speeds. Does chipping an engine fix this problem? I'll be doing a lot of driving over 75 mph, and I'd rather not deal with it.

Should I just shoot for the 3.0?
Is manual, CVT, or auto better for this?

Thanks for the help.

If I were you, I would shoot for the 3.0, much more of a cruiser than the 1.8t.

A chip won't solve the problem of high revs at highway speeds because that's a factor of your transmission. Yes, a CVT would probably help, though I don't know what it revs the engine at at highway speeds (jump in here, CVT owners .

3.0 doesn't rev much lower at highway speeds even in 6th gear, but it is quieter than the 1.8T.

Default turns 3800 at 80-81mph, I've heard the 3.0 6-speed turns closer 3200 or thereabouts

Honestly, it's not that bad in the 1.8t. Plus it kinda sits in a nice spot for the turbo, ie not much freeway downshifting.

My problem is the overall perception. With the stump puller first, and the short 5th, 2-3-4 just are not as much fun as they should be. Third is not bad, but it's short, in my old 81 Scirrocco, 87 944 and 93 K75s, third gear was the truly holy rip **** up gear. In the 1.8t, you have to stop raising hell, shift into forth, and then resume raising hell. Tranny as buzzkill.

The 1.8t with 5-speed rewawakes around 95-115mph with noticable pep in that range.

Default If you don't have a tranny preference, the Tip will give a much lower engine speed ...

on the highway. About 2600 at 75 mph.

When I first got my 1.8T, the tire noise kept the engine noise from being noticable. After replacing the Pirellis with Dunlops, the engine became the dominant noise factor (but not to a level that I would consider irritating).

P.S. In that the engine noise is RPM related, I can't imaging chipping making a difference.

Default What highway buzz? - seems fine to me...

Chip would have nothing to do with it anyway since the RPM is controlled by the gear ratios and not by power output..

2700 rpm @ 75 MPH
