Do you think our electrical system actually runs @ 14 volts?
Do you think it even operates higher or even spikes?

I know when viewing our voltage meters, it almost always reads, 14 volts.

Any input will help me w/ a problem I'm researching.

Should be around 14 volts, just like pretty much every other car out there.

Default The alternator is capable and can put out a small amount..

over 14 volts when under a heavy charging load. Depends on the state of the battery. Usually, it will vary in the 12-14 volt range when the vehicle is running and the alternator covering the electrical load of the car and the charging of the battery. As for spikes, with ideal condition of the battery and the rest of the electrical system, they should be small and short lived.

Default Here's an interesting one though...and a tech answered it for me once, but I forgot.

The taillights when tested, the voltage goes all over the place instead of applying a set amount of current, why is that?

Default Because it is pulse width modulated.

You need a scope to see it correctly.

Default what voltage meter?

unless you have a B5, we don't have volt meters in the cluster. Or are you reading off the VAG?

Default To make my life miserable.

It had something to do with the bulb check system IIRC.
