Default Ok, bring on the physics lesson.!!!!

How is distance a given if thats what we're trying to figure out from the odometer?

And what do you mean by calculating the number of times the transmission has turned over?

Default I don't know the technical details, but I'm pretty sure...

...the car calculates speed by measuring the speed at which some part of the transmission rotates.

If it's calculating the speed of the rotation of the transmission (or whatever part it's measuring if it happens to not be the transmission), it could either use the Velocity*Time method (roundabout) or it could just measure the number of revolutions, right? The number of revoulutions indicates the distance traveled.

Default Re: I think the speedo is desgined to overcompensate.

Ok I re did the math, I have 5300 miles
I should have 4800, so somewhere there is 600 miles.
maybe it adds like an extra 1/8 of a mile for every mile

Default I have 600 additional unnacounted for miles

it appears that for every mile, there is another 1/8 added, so for 1000 it is 1080

You are correct. This has been covered a lot before. I tested it myself with a series of timed runs.

Displayed speed is a percent of actual speed. It can be VAG'ed to 100%.
