Default most c-clamps i know of or have don't allow the pressure point to rotate as you turn

it has a joint right above the clamping point so that you can turn the threaded bar and tighten it without the clamping point turning as well.

are there clamps that don't do that?

Default Mine is the same as yours...

but the piston is not that hard to rotate, just the pressure going through the threaded bar is enough to lock the joint and rotate the piston. At first I thought I would use the C-clamp to push the piston straight back but as soon as I started turning the threaded bar, I saw that the piston was rotating as well. ...at least it worked on mine and I had a few problems getting the right pads so I have taken the calipers off and pushed back the pistons at least 4 to 5 times with the C-clamp and never had a problem.

Default wow, i didn't think that would be enough pressure to rotate them...

do you know of anyone else doing them without the official tool as well?

Default No, sorry, I own one of the only 3 Audi's in town and the other 2 owners are not the DIY type!!!

If you don't trust the C-clamp, there is probably a way you can lock the jointed end (weld, bracket it, etc...) for a lot cheaper than $50.00. However, like I said, I did it quite a few times and the piston rotated every time.

Default Oh, stupid, self-centered me!!!

It's kinda vague but I think I remember reading about someone else using a C-clamp to compress the caliper pistons.
