Default Are the door skins plastic? The did not feel like steel.

When I waxed my car this past weekend I remember feeling the door panel move. So I knocked on it and it sounded like plastic. Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone put a magnet on it?

The paint is probably half the overall thickness!

Default which makes me laugh at some of you...

those who are quick to criticize Asian cars and who call them "tin cans"

for example... "... I came from a GSR and it handled great but it was such a tin can...."

or... "sure the IS300 is nice but I feel better knowing I'm inside a solid German car like the A4..."

I could go on. But either way, is the A4 safe? Yes. Do the door skins flex like a Saturn? Yes. Are Hondas tin cans? Well if you say yes, then your A4 is a tarted up Saturn. I'm done w/my rant.

Default I think the rumor used to be that VW/Audi use a tempered steel that is stronger -anyone confirm?

I know it's a LOT better than some older Nissans I've been in that sounded like tin cans when you tapped on them.

Point being that it *rebounds* from taking a hit versus actually *denting*.

Default Experience tells a different story....

Our other car, an Integra has so many door dings it looks like it incurred sideways hail damage! You could dent the door panels by breathing on them. My old Civic Coupe was the same.

By contrast, our previous A4, a 2000, obtained one dent during its two years. I had the dent removed by one of the paintless dent shops and distinctly remember him telling me that Audi and Volvo had the thickest panels in the industry, thus making them the most difficult to fix if dented.

No offense, but in my experience, the A4 is a solid car and *most* Acuras and Hondas are tin cans, or at least the door panels seem like they are.
