Default Driver Door Has To Be Slammed to Close Properly? *PICS*

It seems my driver door has developed a problem... no longer does a tug close it and have it lock tight into place... have to give it a quick sharp slam.

Having a look at the mechanism... I noticed that part of the mechanism doesn't spring back, I can flick it back and forth into a stuck position. On the other doors, the mechanism springs back.

As you can see the dealer tried lubing it... but it's still acting up.

Any idea if this is fixable without having to replace the whole locking mechanism?

If the mechanism needs replacing... does the whole window frame and regular have to be removed (appears so in my Bentley CD)?

And the golden question, anybody know what the mechanism goes for?

Ensure that the striker is correctly positioned in relation to the latch.

Default hmm, do you normally open the door and hang/put your elbows while talking to someone

on top of the door? i ask this cuz if you put weight on the doors, the latch/lock might not line up anymore. i did this to my old car and what i did was open the door, get under it with both hands and pull up a little.

wouldn't really recommened this since the dealer should be smart enought to know if the door/latch were not aligned, but that's how i fixed it on my old car.

hasn't happened to this car yet.

dealer really should be able to fix it

Not at all... it's a door, not a leaning post.

It's lined up. The problem is in the latch in the photo... it's not springy like the other doors.

Default To confirm, there is spring tension, but it hangs at a point? You may be able to tweak the ...m

latch by twisting it a little one way then the other, wont need much force if that has any effect on the tendency to hang up at one spot. With needle nose vice grips, grasp the latch plate and at the position it hangs up apply a twisting force while moving the latch back and forth at the hang up spot. Alternativly, pry from the sides with a screw driver wile working the latch plate at the hang up spot.

Default Springiness is almost non-existant... more

...can flick it back and forth into the positions in the pics with a pen (and it stays that way).

Trying so on the other door mechanisms meets MUCH more resistance and the mechanism will spring back.

Once I get a laundry list of things to try, I'll take a crack at it. Thanks.

Default Funny but I remember an Audi Account Specialist at Park Ave showroom in NY demonstrated how... more

strong the door hinges are on the B6 by opening the door and hanging on to it with his full weight... And he's not really skinny!

The spring may be broken, that can result from stress fracture. Manu defect. Warranty?

Default Yeah, it also wasn't his car. :) (more)

Doing it once or twice is something. Making it a habit is quite the other thing. (Besides, its not like on other cars, the door snaps off first time anyone does that!)
