Driving Through Puddles - STALLED!?
I know I've seen some postings about our cars stalling after driving through puddles, but I still can't believe it happened to me. It wasn't all that deep! Heck, even a Civic got through! I didn't really want to slam that hard on the brakes, especially on a highway.
Well, the CEL light is on. I checked the engine, I don't really see much water, even in the intake which is at the front right of the engine. At least it started again, but won't rev above 4000rpm.
I'm surprised. I can't see how water can get in. Our engine is so protected from the bottom too. Is there some flaw in the design?
This is the reason why I bought a Quattro...to drive through severe weather! But to die on a puddle??
Never had problems with my other cars.
I'll let it dry out tonight. Bring it in to the dealer sometime later.

3.0 or 1.8T?
I'm curious because it seems to happen mostly on the 3.0s. There was also a post the other day showing the difference in the intakes between the two engines and the 3.0s is more "open".

Don't drive your car. Have it hauled to the dealer NOW!
If you have water in the intake and it gets into the engine you're looking at a major repair. Take if from me. I had the short block replaced on my 3.0 due to hydrolock back in May at a cost of $11K
