Driving Through Puddles - STALLED!?
#12
I have a 3.0 and live in Florida.......mucho rain......
I have never had a problem and we get torrential rain here pretty much every afternoon during the summer. The humidity right now is 100%. Not heard of this issue on the Florida Forum. The water table here is close to the surface so in heavy rain the water cannot drain fast enough, always puddles and standing water. Gotta love Quattro.

This DOES NOT make sense. I'm scared of washing my car (m)
Yes...I have heard of the hydrolock from Yourk a long time ago...I ignored it, thinking it's just a rare case.
I don't think I have hydrolock, probably a wet coil pack or some electronic piece of **** shorting out.
I've sprayed my car with a hose. High pressure, under the engine, in the wheel wells, through the radiator (and probably directly into the intake). No problems!
I've gone through car washes with big *ss bottom sprayers (even though I think is not effective, since the bottom of our engine is covered).
Go through a small puddle. Dead!
I've been searching this forum. I know of one other person who had this problem, but he didn't call it hydrolock. Need to contact that person.
I need to talk to an Audi service rep. This is scary!

Different situation than your car
I sucked enough water through the intake to kill the car immediately.
Yourk's car on the other hand died later. If I remember correctly he took to the dealer because it was running poorly. The dealer replace the coil pack and shortly after, his engine blew. He had to have the entire engine replace.
In both cases we drive 3.0's not 1.8's
I would contact the dealer as a CYA if for no other reason. If they give your car a clean bill of health and it dies later you might have some recourse. *** Maybe ***.

"Gotta love Quattro". Yeah, that's what I was thinking right before the car died.
You might be tempted into thinking that my and yourk's problems are a result of driver error or just bad luck but I can assure you that is not the case.
I learned the hard way that Quattro is not some almighty thing that will get my out of any driving situation
In wet/rainy situations, I stick to the main roads that are well lit. If I see standing water, I avoid it or slow way down.

Yes hydrolock can happen to ANY engine.
When water enters the cylinder, the engine is unable to compress the water and ... bam hydrolock. Bent rods and pistons, cracked block and possibly blow heads!
