Default Dunlop S9090

Quick question, Has anyone driven with the Sport 9090 in one to two inches of snow. I have to run up 95N from Baltimore in the morning to NJ( Matawan) and was wondering? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply, Would you consider it better than a reg front wheel drive or rear wheel drive with these tires. Did it grab the pavement?

Four wheels with power are always better then two. IMHO you will be fine as long as u are careful where the roads are wet and the snowflake is illuminated. The tires are grippy on wet pavement, but its the black ice that will get you

Tires make more of a difference than drive wheels. RWD with snows are better than AWD with allseasns

Default Don't believe the Hype!

I have a set of 9090's on my 3.0 that I take to Vermont every weekend of the skiseason. 4 Wheel drive has nothing to do with stopping. The tires are horrible in the snow. If you are going to expose your car to snow regularly, I would definitely suggest investing in a set of deddicated snows. 9090's are great on dry and wet but LOUSY in the snow. Also, wide 17 inch tires tend to float on top of snow, narrower snow tires will get you to the pavement more often.

Default Re: Dunlop S9090 are summer tires which becomes hard as hockey pucks in the cold.

Quattro will give you a false sense of security when you accelerate off the line. You will feel like you have a lot of traction. But when is comes to stopping or cornering it is like any other vehicle. You will notice this phenomenon in any winter storm where you'll see lots of SUVs in the ditch.
You may complete your trip without incident. Or you may end up paying for costly repairs. I tried to skimp on getting proper winter tires and ended up paying for repairs when my wife slid off the road, and then having to buy winter tires anyway.

Default Going will be no problem. Stopping in them will be. The compound becomes very hard when it's cold,

and the large surface area of contact to the road only makes it worse in the snow. I got all-seasons for the boston winter...they feel great so far. $500 for Sumitomo A/S tires. Don't risk it.
