Default early morning cold weather oil question

I'm currently running mobile 1 synthetic oil, 5W-30. As the cold onset of winter begins in upstate new york (we're talking cold start temps of 10 below zero at times), what oil weight should i be using? stick with 5W-30, or change? i do my own oil changes, so it doesn't really make a difference as long as I can find the oil easily... thanks in advance!

The approved Mobil1 is 0w-40 for 1.8T's, VW's and Porsche

If you have a 1.8 the 5W30 is not an approved oil, the 0W40 Mobil 1 is, in fact it s probably a good choice for the 2.8 or 3.0 engine also.

5w is tested to crank @-30f. If it gets below -5f, I'd use 0w in a turbo.German Syntec pours -72f!
