Default ECM Replaced under Warranty

2003 1.8T CVT; 6,430 miles
Dealer is waiting for ECM part to come in. Some posts on this site suggest that this is a radical procedure. Is that true? What questions / concerns, if any, should I raise with the dealer when I pick the car up? This is a warranty replacement of a non-modified OEM part. First symptoms were intermittent start failures, followed by complete failure to start. The car also went haywire, for example, power windows wouldn't work, etc. Just out of curiosity, what would an ECM cost?

Default Not common, but it happens. If it does the trick, I wouldn't worry...

I suspect a new one costs over $1000. Be glad it's on Audi's dime!
