Only you'll be spending FAR, FAR, FAR more than the difference in cost between selling your present Tiptronic car and buying a manual trannied car. Plus, I doubt if any shop would want to touch the job. And, even if you DO get it done, bet you't have trouble like crazy because of one item or another that doesn't interface right.

the answer is yes that it can definitely be done, but in the reality we live the answer is that many of us will not be able to do this. It requires dealer access to the SKC that now many dealers are not even keeping in hand anymore due to more sophisticated packages out. cheers! Mike

Hey, no problem with your plan, there is no reason for a dealer not to accommodate you and adapt the replacement ecu to your immobilizer.
I have had this type of work done and as long as you can show that you are the registered owner, it wont be a problem. If you are refused at a certain dealer, go to a different one. If possible, go to the dealer who sold the car new.
I guess that a lot of the negative opinions posted are the product of a lot of heresy and little if any actual experiences.

I try to be fair and say it can be done in theory, but not a single dealership in both of the states I lived in would do it. They are under no obligation to do this. Some dealers are good about this but saying it can be done by anyone wouldnt be accurate. For example, if you were to try and sell an ECU on ebay or the classifieds like the B5 guys do, you may end up with a very angry customer if they didnt know their dealer wouldnt do this for them. cheers!
